Connections

In my next life I want to be a bridge designer. Bridge structures are fascinating architectural forms. They developed from natural formations in the landscape: a falling log inspired the beam bridge, a rock the arch bridge and a hanging vine the suspension bridge. The curves and delicacy of design are both pleasing to the eye and entirely functional. A well-designed bridge is intended to blend with and become one with the surrounding landscape. Its function is to connect points, to bridge what are considered obstacles and ease access to the land. I see the bridge form as a metaphor for the relationship between humans and the landscape.
